Morning Meditation

Birds are just waking up, their early

noises bright and exciting.

Two sparrows rub wings in morning greeting, then

dip and dive to usher in

the day.

Nearby,

soft brown birds gather to swap dreams and practice

interpretation.

In the starchy grass, a speckled grackle hunts its first meal

of the day.

Tell me: what is the sound of a thousand wings flapping?
